How trade-in value is worked out.

No mystery and no magic number. Here is what anyone appraising your vehicle looks at, and how to get the most from it.

The short answer.

Trade-in value comes down to what your vehicle is, how it has been looked after, and what similar vehicles are selling for right now. Year, make, model, trim and mileage set the starting point. Condition, accident history, options and records move it up or down from there.

An online estimate is a useful first look, but the real number comes once someone sees and drives the vehicle. With us you can take the offer as cash or as trade-in credit toward your next car, truck or SUV. And if you just want to sell, we will buy your vehicle.

What an appraiser looks at.

These are the same details our trade-in form asks for, and why each one matters.

  • Year, make, model and trim: the baseline
  • Mileage: lower usually helps, but care matters more
  • Engine, transmission and drivetrain, like 4×4
  • Options and packages, from leather to towing gear
  • Body and paint: dents, rust and past repairs
  • Tires, brakes and glass: things the next owner pays for
  • Accident or flood history, and whether it was wrecked
  • Warning lights, leaks and how it drives
  • Service records that show regular maintenance
  • Demand: what buyers on the Gulf Coast want right now

What sellers told us.

Word for word, from Google and Facebook.

Ben and Fred were amazing!! Gave us a higher trade in value than expected and put us in a beautiful Lexus GX460. Great dealership and easy to work with. Highly recommend these guys. Will definitely go through them again next time I need a ride!

Bought a Honda from Fred, the process was super simple and he even held the car for a bit to give time to think it over. Was able to get a check written to me for my old car after the fact because I didn’t realize they did trades. Very stand up business!

Trade-in questions.

Can you buy my car even if I am not buying one?

Yes. We will buy your vehicle outright, and you can take the money as cash. One buyer in our reviews got a check for his old car after the fact.

What if I owe more than the vehicle is worth?

That is called negative equity, and it happens. The difference has to be paid off or, in some cases, rolled into your next loan. We will show you the numbers so you can decide with your eyes open.

Should I fix things before I trade it in?

Usually not the big things: major repairs rarely pay back in trade value. A good clean inside and out, both keys and your service records are worth the effort.

Would I get more selling it myself?

Sometimes. A private sale can bring more money, but it takes time, strangers and paperwork. Trading in is quicker and simpler. Our dealer vs. private seller answer covers both sides.

Can my trade go toward my down payment?

Yes. Trade-in credit can go toward your down payment, and the credit application has a section for your trade.
