Used cars and sedans, the sensible choice.

Lower fuel bills, easier parking and usually lower insurance than a big SUV. For commuters, students and anyone who just wants a car that starts every morning, a good used sedan is hard to beat.

Who a sedan suits.

A sedan makes the most sense when most of your miles are you, a passenger or two, and the road to work.

Daily commuters on I-10 and US-98. Students heading off to school. Retirees who want comfort without climbing up into a truck. First-time drivers whose parents want something predictable. All of them tend to land on a reliable sedan.

Cars also cost less to put tires on, and most fit any garage or parking spot downtown. If you need a third row or tow a boat, see our used SUVs or used trucks instead. And yes, we sometimes have minivans too.

Kinds of cars buyers ask about

  • Midsize sedans like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord
  • Luxury sedans like the Lexus GS and Mercedes C-Class
  • Compacts and hatchbacks for tight budgets and tight parking
  • Wagons and small all-wheel-drive cars like Subarus

What to look for on a used car.

Cars are simpler than trucks and SUVs, but a few minutes of checking still pays off.

  • Service records. Regular oil changes and on-time maintenance matter more than a low number on the odometer.
  • Timing belt or chain. Some engines need a belt replaced at a set mileage. The owner’s manual tells you which, and when.
  • How the transmission feels. Many newer cars use a CVT, which should feel smooth and quiet, not shuddery or whiny.
  • Warning lights. Every dash light should come on at start-up and then go out.
  • Tires and brakes. Even tread and quiet, straight stops on the test drive.
  • Open recalls. Enter the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see any that have not been done.
  • The AutoCheck report, free on each of our listings: title brands, reported accidents and the number of owners.
  • Mileage for the age. A rough rule of thumb is 12,000 to 15,000 miles a year; far more or far less is worth a question.

Car buyers, in their words.

Word for word, from Google and Facebook.

Over the years, I have purchased 4 cars (3 of them Lexus's) from Sport Center Imports, and have been well pleased with all of them. Ben has always been great to work with, and can find you the pre-owned car you are looking for at a price less than the dealers. Working with Ben has always been a pleasure.....Great Job !!!

Bought a Honda from Fred, the process was super simple and he even held the car for a bit to give time to think it over. Was able to get a check written to me for my old car after the fact because I didn’t realize they did trades. Very stand up business!

I have bought several cars from Sport Center Imports (2012 Volkswagen CC, 2008 Nissan Xterra, 2010 Mini Cooper). They have always gone above and beyond to find exactly what my husband and I were looking for - color, mileage, interior- at an unbeatable price. I always recommend them to friends and family who are looking to buy a new or used vehicle.

Used car questions.

Is a used luxury sedan expensive to keep up?

It can cost more than an economy car for parts, tires and some repairs, though brands like Lexus have a reputation for being durable. Look for service records, and price a set of tires and a routine service before you buy so there are no surprises.

What is the best used car for a commute?

One with a good reliability record, comfortable seats and fuel economy that fits your mileage. A midsize sedan with a clean history and regular maintenance is the usual safe bet.

Do you sell minivans?

At times, yes. Our inventory includes cars, trucks, SUVs and minivans, so check the live list or ask us to look for one.

Can I see the history report before I visit?

Yes. Every vehicle listing on our site has a free AutoCheck report you can open from home.

How do I set up a test drive?

We work by appointment, so please call 251-625-2131. Hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm, Saturday 10am to 1pm, and Sunday by appointment.
